I’ve been preparing to format today, and have realised i’m in for some serious data juggling. I don’t quite have enough space to move all the stuff i want to save to a safe place, and i can’t be stuffed sending 10 or so gig accross the network, although i guess i have no choice.
Had a great night last night with a friend from school, haven’t had that much fun with one person for a while now. Catch Me If You Can is a pretty good movie. I bought The Replacement Killers, Gone In 60 Seconds and Kundun soundtracks yesterday too. Replacement Killers would have to be my favourite, i guess i’ve always had something for Gregson-Williams’ music. Gone In 60 Seconds is impressive too. Rabin is a champ as well, so it’s not suprising to find that my favourite soundtrack of all is Enemy Of The State – a Harry Gregson Williams / Trevor Rabin collaberation. I’m half heartedly saving for a gigasampler, but i don’t know if it’s worth it. I might just buy some low end samples instead and go from there.
Meanwhile, i forgot about Gibbo’s party, and Nerdfest at CANCON. What irritates me is that as soon as CANCON starts and i’m not there, i get this massive urge to play DoD of BF1942. *sigh*. My crapness at Warcraft 3 continues, but i plan to play OzRoy sometime this week at the Barracks and see how i do.

City still burning. 400+ homes gone. Badcore. Fire was supposed to be coming in around this part of the city today too but so far no signs of it. If I were living at my previous house I’d be a bit more worried though.
There’s a new addition in the Flash Archive too. It’s the latest telling of Shakespeare from the mind of Chris Coutts – Hamlet for the l33t. Head over to the flash archive and check it out.

Fires still burn in and around Canberra, although at this point in time they seem to be under control. Forecast winds have not arrived, meaning that firefighters can get one up on the fires. Still, more homes are lost and up to 4 people dead now, it’s no good. There is the possibility of the fires headed this way again, if the stupid winds blow this way again, it could get really bad.
We thought we’d do the responsible thing and scout out the suburbs during the night, so El Capitan, Mert and myself took to the streets at about 2am, looking for fires. We didn’t see any, but we did get harrased by a ghost car, and ended up stopping at the 24/7 Caltex in Kaleen. This place is my new watering hole on acount of it having a Blitz machine. So, i got a Mega bucket of Blitz (Pink, Yellow AND cola) and a meat pie. The green wasn’t frozen in the machine but i put some in anyway, making for about 2 litres of the stuff you see below:

I felt pretty sick after.

What I told you yesterday is that I returned from Newcastle. What I didn’t tell you is that I’d been away for 4 weeks and at some point in that time a circuit breaker in my house switched causing my refrigerator to no longer refigerate.
Check it out in the latest Mert’s Kitchen.

Yeah this fire thing is getting pretty desperate. The better part of the entire state has been issued emergency warnings as well as an official state of emergency declaration.
Figures are sketchy but reports of up to 100 houses destroyed are going round and at least one person is dead. Things are looking pretty grim for our state capitol.
In what I hope doesn’t turn out to be a lucky coincidence I returned from Newcastle today. House still intact and doesn’t look like the fire threat in my suburb is too high at the moment. Let’s hope they can get it under control everywhere else.
In other happy news I missed out on 10 billion uni courses. I always knew it would be like this but knowing it officially was still crap. Who knows where this year will take me. That’s the beauty of being ultra-existentialist – no expectations.

Today would go on the charts as one of the most random days i’ve had in a while. This year, at least. I was sent to Fyshwick to a government auction. Only problem was that the agency didn’t actually operate there any more, but i wasn’t told (but ended up being blamed). More OzForces stuff, it’s good.
Then i was bored and found nothing exiting, anywhere, ever. There is nothing and no one exiting that i can find, do or see, no adrenaline, no nothing. So we decided to go to the Canberra Times press at about 1am and get today’s newspaper which has the University selection notices in it. I’m very happy to say that i gained entry into the Bachelor of Arts / International Relations course at the Australian National University. We went from Fyshwick to Black Mountain Tower to read the newspaper because we thought that such randomness might invoke some thrill. It really didn’t. Neither did going to Gull (24/7 Service Station) and buying a hotdog (believe it or not). The only thing that came close to semi interesting was when two girls walked into the store wearing boxer shorts and PJ tops.
So apart from the momentary thrill of being accepted into uni, i feel like a dulled blade.

Decided if I was ever going to get back on the net it’d have to be now, in the daytime. I SHOULD still be asleep but desperate times call for desperate measures.
I think this is about the 4 week mark of my Newcastle stay. One of my longer visits I think? If I said I’d done absolutely nothing at all here it wouldn’t be too far from the truth. I’ve spent nearly all my time inside this house doing not much at all.
Oh, with the excpetion of knocking down a bit of a chruch. Other achievements include reading 3 books, finishing 4 xBox games and being fat.
I thwarted my Mum’s evil plans to fatten me up by utilising the mini home gym but I also thwarted my plans to use my hands for stuff when I frequently and repeatedly destroyed my hands on the punching bag.
In other news uni admissions released tommorow. That should mark the beginning of the end. Or the end of the beginning. Or maybe intermission or something. I’m going to ze lobby!
Oh yeah, and I think I go back to Canberra the following day. This time with my Dadz0r. I think he’s gonna be living with me for the next 3 months.

What’s the most scary thing you can find in your room at midnight? Is it
a) Lee Huntsman, Ph.D Professor, Provost, University of Washington
b) Stan Huntsman, Ex-USA track coach
c) This delicious French Huntsman cheese
d) Jerry Huntsman, Some old footballer or something
e) A fat huntsman spider
I put it to you that finding any of these in your room at midnight would be quite an ordeal. Actually I think finding a fat 100 year old Texan track coach in your bedroom would be the most frightening but I’ll have to settle for a fat huntsman spider. I just went in there and as I turned to walk out I saw it, perched on the wall above my bed. Now usually if there’s a spider in my house I’ll take it outside or something but a fat huntsman is too much. And by now it has probably moved from its position so when I go back I’ll have no idea where it is. So you can see my dilemma. I’ll just have to never sleep in that room again.
Hopefully the spare room is only occupied by a block of french cheese.
