A quick weekend away saw us head to Bowral, a town I’d never actually visited. I put this down to my lack of interest in cricket and not being a celebrity. But the “Borealis in the Vines” exhibit was on and since it combined two of my favorite things – fancy lights and wine – we thought we’d check it out. We stayed at Hopewood House, a rather impressive estate owned by the Storrier family (of Archibald Prize fame). It had both the vibe of a pleasant country villa as well as a bit of 1800’s haunted house feel to it, but in a good way.

Hopewood House. A nice place to stay and a potential location for a movie adaptation of Clive Barker’s Undying.

It happened to be adjacent to the Centennial Vineyards, which was very convenient. The exhibit was really quite busy, and the laser / fog machine combination worked really quite well. The ambient drones from speakers scattered through the field was a nice touch. I haven’t seen the real aurora borealis, so this will be a bit of a placeholder until I do. Overall, a pleasant experience!

Pondering a passage from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Just joking, I was looking at a fish.
