Soda Bread
If you need bread in a hurry, or didn’t plan ahead for a yeast-based dough, soda bread is a quick and easy alternative. You can have it on the table within an hour.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of white flour
- 2 cups of wholemeal flour
- 1 Tbsp of baking powder
- 1 tsp of sale
- 3 Tbsp of butter
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 splash of buttermilk
Method
Heat your oven to 200C.
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix together. You don’t need to knead this dough, but make sure it’s mixed well and everything is combined.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and bring together into a round shape and slash the top twice with a sharp knife.
Dust a baking tray or pizza stone and put the round in the centre, then into the oven.
Cook for about 35 minutes, or until you see a good dark brown starting to colour the top of the loaf.
Remove and cool on a wire rack.
