PSA: If you’re trying to use an ESP32 as a presence sensor in Home Assistant, and you’re using state_topic: espresense/rooms in your YAML, check that your ESP32 node is sending to the room topic. It is off by default.
Send to rooms topic. It must be ticked.
I’m usually pretty good at reading documentation. And I generally avoid posting in forums. Which is why it took me three days of pain to finally find a post on Reddit by Kingharp pointing this out. Don’t be like BuzzMoo. Make sure that box is ticked.
