ACT Votes
It’s local election day here, we’re voting on the makeup of the Legislative Assembly. There have been a lot of ads and flyers in my letterbox. Along with the US election, that’s about all there is on TV right now….cool! The Riot Act (popular Canberran online soapbox) has done something that will make you say [...]

Putin gets tiger cub for his birthday
The AP is reporting that Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin received a rare tiger cub for his birthday. The tiger – one of only a few hundred still in existence sleeps in a basket, i assume, at the foot of his bed. Irresponsible? Probably.
Referrer Karma
In order to get a clearer picture from the tealeaves that are webstats, on Elroy’s recommendation I’ve installed something called Referrer Karma. It’s a script that filters out referral spam by making sure the incoming link is actually from where it says it is. It’s also got handy blacklist/whitelist functions. I understand it’s pretty popular and that [...]

Presidential road trips
A short and kind of incomplete article on CNN this morning details modes of presidential transportation over the years. Things have come a long way since the horse and cart, that’s for sure. At the moment Bush rolls with 27 vehicles in his motorcade. If you want to see how many big cars and trucks [...]

The Kite Eating Tree
The blustery spring afternoon saw us down at Aranda oval, with kites. For the first time since the post here in 2003 we took to the skies. Unfortunately after running James‘ kite out the brittle wood spindle snapped, and his childhood memories were taken by the whim of the wind. Carried to the bottom of [...]
A Year of Heavy Losses chart
You’ll notice I’ve stopped my trading on the stock markets, on account of it’s all going to hell. This week being the worst (economically) for the US for a good many decades. We’ve had 4 Trillion dollars worth of value disappear from the markets… but that’s kind of hard to visualise. The New York Times has [...]
Bill Bailey – Tinselworm
So we picked up tickets to Bill Bailey‘s Australian tour many many months ago and saw him this weekend. In fact I’d forgotten about the show until just the day before (the specific date, that is. Hard to keep Bailey out of your head entirely..!).It turns out “Row EE” is actually “The front row” which [...]
HP OS to Counter Vista?
Geek News Central is musing over HP’s rumored plan to create an operating system for it’s own machines, open source flavour (to some degree). I haven’t actually installed or even really used much Vista at all, but it sounds like the experience is enough to make one of the worlds largest hardware vendors look elsewhere. [...]
iPod timeline
If you’ve been coming here for a while you know that I’ve been through a lot of iPod. In fact it was going to be a photo feature here at some point (still may) because the array of devices in chronological order is pretty impressive. With Apple’s new line of iPods just out, Gizmodo has [...]
