I’m interested to see the GUI updates and am quite happy they’ve introduced an “Extreme Power Save” mode so the wifi can now be turned off easily. Absolutely essential! I’ll have more to say when I’m up and running.

Daniel Drake, OLPC Inc. intern, has been in Ethiopia for the past half a month working on that country’s first OLPC XO deployment. Inugami

Read full article | No Comments

The foreign-film-fest continues at Elroy Online with a look at Masato Harada’s Inugami. A not-quite-Jhorror title that calls to Japans rich mythological history to add a little depth to the story, apparently! My only experience with any Jhorror was The Ring 3 (I think?) but I enjoyed that, and as Elroy gives Inugami the thumbs up, I’m [...]

If [...]

In order to get a clearer picture from the tealeaves that are webstats, on Elroy’s recommendation I’ve installed something called Referrer Karma. It’s a script that filters out referral spam by making sure the incoming link is actually from where it says it is. It’s also got handy blacklist/whitelist functions. I understand it’s pretty popular and that [...]

This is a good one. While watching the BBC the other night I caught a short astronomers segment called “The Sky At Night”. One of the main stories was about Galaxy Zoo, a massive public effort to categories galaxies from a mass of hundreds of millions of images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The SDSS is an [...]

I’ve put together a short brief to bring anyone out of the loop into the loop in regards to netbook computing. A static link to this article can be found in the articles section. What is a “Netbook”? The term “netbook” refers to a low-cost, small-sized, energy-efficient laptop computer. The term has only begun to [...]
