Network Professional (BuzzMoo)

After arriving home after the Tequila Suicide incident, i found that my new DSL was offline. I wasn’t happy and in my state, i cursed Comindico and proceeded to try everything to fix it. I couldn’t work it out, and midway through trying to enable my second network card, a blurry, bubble throught appeared above my head. It was Elroy in all his angelicness.

“What i don’t understand, is the step of logic most people take when they discover something on their PC isn’t working. . . Even if they didn’t change anything, they’ll mess around with every setting and change the entire setup in an attempt to get it going again”.

It was deep. I didn’t modify anything, so what was my drunken fumbling going to do? I halted all proceedings and went to bed.

In the morning, it was back online, all was working a treat. I didn’t question it any further.

Tonight i arrive home tonight to find that my DSL was again offline. It was off and i couldn’t log into my router, just like last night. Something wasn’t right. The same situation, at the same time, two nights in a row? Coincidence or something more…?

A flashback memory of me returning the car keys to their hook – the house was quiet. Too quiet. Something was missing. And there it was! The upstairs PC was off also. The same as last night. The same as any other time my net connection never worked.

It all became clear.

My stupid hub (donated by Bandit a few years ago) had somehow managed to make itself into a series-like connection. If one part of the chain was dead, the rest went dead also. So, when the PC upstairs was off, it effectivley killed the network connection to all other devices on my network, DSL modem included (when it really should have no effect on anything else).

Rushing upstairs i turned the PC on and behold! All network connectivity came back.

3 Years of stupid network problems i could never work out and it turns out it’s the stupid hub. A 10baseT hub, at that.

Come monday, i’ll order a new one.

Tequila Suicide

Need:
1 – Shot of tequila
1 – Wedge of lemon
1 – lick ‘o salt.
1X10billion – stupidity

Snort the salt up your nose, take the shot, squirt the lemon in your eye and then roll around on the floor screaming for about 15 minutes. Next time i think i will wait until i’m drunk.

Broadband BuzzMoo (BuzzMoo)

‘ve been trying to get boradband for almost 5 years. For the offshore visitors, Telstra is Australia’s big telco and will stop at nothing to see me destroyed. They control the show and have screwed me over a number of times.

But that’s all changed, as i’m now posting this update courtesy of my OzForces Elite Gamer ADSL plan. Weighing in at 512/128, things are hooning along. On a related note i’ve decided to buy a new 120gig HDD as i’m already running out of room. Now if only Mert could get himself off his wonderful TPG dialup, we’d all be sitting pretty.

Meanwhile due to time restraints (ie no time at all) i haven’t put up much of the old content. The flash archive was a big hit with most people, but it’s a manual process of moving 50 odd links and images to this new format…i just can’t do it. Same goes with Mert’s kitchen, which may now be Mert and Jill’s kitchen. Jill is the new resident at Ranchò ÉlMertò. To evict her just send your SMS 0401-JILLOUT vote to me. If you’d like to evict Mert, go bash down his door.

Taskara is on the way with some more linux stuff, and i really want to get more of a focus on audio here but again, time.

Speaking of time, it’s time you checked out Random’s (empty, for the moment) site. www.randomband.netinfact. A site done again by Elroy, for a local band here in Canberra. They’d better make me famous.

Small spaces (Mert)

Speaking of doing stuff I think Mert’s Kitchen is back to it’s former glory.
So I dunno, go make some crappy cuisine or something.

In news less related to doing stuff Phone Booth is now in cinemas. Of course it’s been in cinemas accross the US for near 7 weeks now but nevermind that.

Read on to find out what I had to say about it…

TANJ (BuzzMoo)

I felt that i need to vent my frustration over this 12hr headache seemingly caused by a tiny amount of alcohol, going to bed sober and waking up with what i guess isn’t a hangover, but ‘one of those headaches’ i get. Or used to get. I thought i didn’t anymore but it looks like i do. Brings back old memories really.

Matrix Reloaded review reloaded. (Mert)

It’s now nearly 7pm on the opening day of what is expected to be quite frankly one of the most amazing films in recent times.

Myself, Buzzmoo and Sird were one of the thousands that got tickets weeks early to see the first screening at midnight last night. Now I’m not particulary ‘geek’ but when I woke up this morning I was still thinking about it.
‘Nuff said…or not?

I choose ‘not’ and this is why…

Winner of a weekend (BuzzMoo)

Being wednesday i thought it was due time to post about the weekend. It was tops as, 2 good nights out and no hangover for my efforts.

On friday i saw Rogue Traders at Lot 33, these guys being the champions they are put out some good beats. Saturday night re-established my like of barcardi and battery acid. It also re-established how random stuff is. As i’m sure Mert will elaborate, he ended up with a fresh bottle of tropicle Fanta from some drunk guy, one of our older looking friends being called a “Fat Little Blonde Kid” by a bouncer and Shane, being the safter conscious guy that he is, drinking shots he found left at the bar @ In Blue.

In an unrelated note, Check out Chris’s clockz0ring article. The A7N Meets Teh Barton.
